Job Description

Overview

We are looking for a Tax Manager to lead a team and provide tax advisory services to a portfolio of both local and international clients.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Act as the primary point of contact for a portfolio of complex local and international clients on all tax matters.
  • Manage direct interaction with clients and tax authorities, including correspondence, queries and complex matters.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships through a deep understanding of client structures, transactions and circumstances.
  • Support Partners on engagements, including fee negotiation, billing, profitability and ownership of WIP and debtor positions.
  • Lead and oversee the delivery of tax compliance for complex clients, including review and approval of advanced tax computations, returns and refund claims.
  • Interpret and apply Maltese tax legislation, double taxation treaties, EU directives and international tax principles.
  • Provide high‑quality tax advisory services on domestic and international matters, including restructurings and complex transactions.
  • Analyse and advise on the tax implications of non‑routine or complex transactions, ensuring technically robust and tax‑effective outcomes.
  • Identify and manage tax risks, approve appropriate tax treatments and maintain effective tax management processes.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with the Inland Revenue Department on complex matters.
  • Keep up to date with local and international tax developments and contribute to the firm’s technical knowledge base.
  • Lead and manage a tax team, ensuring clear delegation, supervision and accountability across engagements.
  • Review team output, provide technical guidance and coaching, and support performance management and recruitment.
  • Coordinate workflows and resources to ensure timely delivery and efficient service.
  • Ensure firm policies, due diligence requirements and internal procedures are consistently applied.
  • Contribute to internal training, technical guidance and continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements:

  • Hold an MQF level 7 qualification in a relevant subject
  • A minimum of 6 years of experience working in Tax, with experience leading or mentoring team members
  • A broad understanding of macro-economic issues, regulatory requirements, and an excellent understanding of taxation strategies, double tax treatie, and routine tax matters such as income tax, indirect tax, personal and corporate tax
  • Excellent knowledge of Malta's tax law, double tax treaties, EU directives, and developments in international taxation as well as their practical implications
  • Able to easily apply tax knowledge to practical situations and develop creative ways to obtain the most advantageous fiscal position for clients
  • Fluency in English, both written and verbal
